This is our longest day tour. It is 248 miles and takes all day. We leave from the corner of US 301 and CR 318 at 9:00 AM and you arrive back at the end of the loop anywhere between 6:30 PM and 8:30 PM depending on how long we stay in Cedar Key.
With this tour you start in Citra, FL (about 30 miles south of Gainesville on US 301) and ride through some beautiful roads surrounded by water, going through a canopy of trees in spots. You roll through the historic town of Micanopy, FL, which is the coolest little town I have ever seen. It is also where the movie “Doc Hollywood” with Michael J. Fox was filmed. After that you cut across the state over to Chiefland, FL and then through some forest and farms to Cedar Key. If any of you have ever been to Cedar Key before I am guessing that you went from US 19 then turn on SR 24 and then went about 25 miles to get there. On this tour you don’t ride that long, flat and straight route. We have found a much more scenic route that lets you bypass almost all of SR 24.
Time for lunch! We have lunch at “Dock Street Depot Restaurant” which sits on top of “Cedar Key Cycles” right on the water. I have eaten there several times and the food is great. Lunch is included in the cost of your tour. After lunch you spend an hour or so site seeing and then kick stands up.
After leaving Cedar Key you go down US 19 past the Crystal River Nuclear Power Plant and then into some of the best curves and most scenic roads I have seen in FL. You go along a river for several miles. From there you roll over Rainbow River and then onto some rolling hills that go up and down for miles. I have never seen anything like it in FL before. When I ride this section I almost feel like I am somewhere else, not in FL. During the last leg of the tour you see some of the most pristine farms you have ever seen anywhere. The tour ends in the same spot as it started as all of our tours do.
